Evaluation and Assessment

I take a neurodiversity-affirming approach to evaluations, which means my goal is to give a comprehensive of who the child is and how their brain works.

A diagnosis is not about labeling. It’s a tool:

• It helps individuals better understand themselves.

• It allows families and communities to better understand children or adolescents.

• It serves as a key to unlock increased support, resources, and accommodations.

All reports include practical recommendations for school and home that can be implemented right away. They also highlight how the client meets eligibility requirements for formal support (such as an IEP).

This evaluation will be conducted by me, Dr. Kai Gunty, PhD, LMFT, LPCC. I am a doctoral-level provider with extensive education and training in assessment, testing, evaluation, and diagnosis. Additionally, I have taught undergraduate- and graduate-level courses on assessment and psychological testing.

I specialize in identifying neurodivergence in kids assigned female at birth, high-masking kids, twice exceptional kids, and kids with PDA profiles. I use a variety of methods to help regulate kids during this process.

I focus on making sure evaluation results are accessible. As such, each evaluation includes:

a full evaluation report

family and child summaries

school/daycare summaries

Insurance companies in Minnesota do not provide coverage for psychological evaluations or neuropsychological evaluations by anyone other than a Licensed Psychologist (LP).

While I am a doctoral-level provider with the training and competencies needed to conduct these assessments, I am not a Licensed Psychologist.

Therefore, insurance companies will generally not provide coverage for assessments I conduct. You are welcome to check with your insurance company for specific details.
